A memorial service for Mr. Hurshel Lee Ruffin, age 82, of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 in the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Britt Dupree officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Ruffin was born April 10, 1939, and passed away Friday, October 22, 2021. He retired from International Paper as a Maintenance Superintendent after forty years. Mr. Ruffin was a member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe, LA, and served our country as a Jet Mechanic in the United States Air Force. He loved skeet shooting and long range shooting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife, Sheila. Mr. Ruffin had a special dog, Mowgli, whom he loved very dearly.
Mr. Ruffin is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Sheila Wise Ruffin; daughter, Amber Ruffin Welch and husband Jeff of White Hall, AR; grandchildren, Jordan Lee Bigger and husband Jake of Jonesboro, AR, and Jase Elizabeth Welch of White Hall, AR;
sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Susan and Mike Barringer of Monroe, LA; niece, Brooke Burgard and husband Brian of Summerville, SC; great-nieces, Annabelle and Ashleigh; nephew, Josh Barringer of Vancouver, Canada; half-brother, Reggie Ruffin of Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, C.H. Ruffin and Hazel Dean.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
