Please share a memory of Patsy Philley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patsy Philley Smith, age 80, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Patsy was born on November 18, 1941, to Clabe and Katie Conn Philley. From an early age, she wanted to become a wife and mother. At age 18, she married Harold Smith, the love of her life; and they were married 57 years until his passing in 2016. They had three children: Timothy Edward Smith, who passed away in 2019; Kala Brooks (Kelly); and Amy Moses (David). Patsy loved the role of homemaker and especially enjoyed cooking. Harold’s work took them to short stints in Florida, where they enjoyed the beaches and to south Louisiana, where Patsy learned about Cajun cooking. But Patsy was happiest at home in Monroe and Sterlington. When her children were young, she participated in their school activities, providing treats for their parties and entertaining their friends. After their children grew up, Patsy and Harold spent time with friends and family and enjoyed dancing and playing cards. Patsy had a quick wit and was always ready for a good laugh. For several years, she and her sister, Linda, had “Sister Day” once a week, going to lunch and shopping. They were often joined by one or more of the other sisters.
Patsy loved children and enjoyed her five grandchildren, Rikki Rowe (Tiffany Wyse), Randi Auger (Sean), Benji Rowe (Ricci); and Chandler and Luke Moses; as well as five great granddaughters, Bre, Tori, Aubri, Lexi and Rileigh Ann and one great grandson, Barrack.
Patsy was one of eleven children, nine of them girls. Her two brothers, Thomas Philley and Paul Philley; and her three sisters, Clara Hopper, Caliece Irby and Judy Philley predeceased her. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by Gail Mize, Linda Barkley, Nancy Russ (John), Rennie Barmore, and Dottie Pace.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Golden Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The visitation will be held Sunday, prior to the service, beginning at 1 PM.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kelly Brooks, Sean Auger, David Moses, Chandler Moses, Luke Moses, and Benji Rowe. Honorary pallbearer will be Buddy Smith.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Tiffany Wyse; special niece, Amanda Kennedy; and a long-time friend, Christy Nicholson.
