Funeral services for Ellis Manford Rushing are scheduled for 2 PM Friday, February 4, 2022, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Sis. Irma McCall officiating. Interment will follow in Musgrove Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1 PM. Mr. Rushing was born on March 29, 1941 in Winnsboro, LA, and passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, at the age of eighty. He was a loving husband, daddy, and papaw. Mr. Rushing will be remembered as the hard worker he was. He had exemplary service with the United States Postal Service, with having almost perfect attendance, never having any accidents, and delivering his mail on time! Mr. Rushing loved music, listening to all types, but especially country. He was a member of Community of Christ Church, and above all else, a child of God! Mr. Rushing also served his country in the United States Army, where he also served as the Pitcher for the U.S. Army Baseball team. He was an avid sports fan and a talented ball player, having had a 96 mph fastball and a “nasty” breaking ball!! After the Army, Mr. Rushing also played men’s slow pitch softball for years (as the pitcher), as well as, playing for leagues in Morehouse Parish. He continued to play sports for fun, including basketball, until he was around fifty-five years old. He loved LSU, the Saints, and the Texas Rangers. Among his favorite ball players were: Football: Drew Brees (Quarterback for New Orleans Saints) Baseball: Nolan Ryan (Pitcher for Texas Rangers) Greg Maddux (Pitcher for Atlanta Braves coming in as a close second) Basketball- Back in the day: Larry Bird (Forward for the Boston Celtics) - Present day: Steph Curry (Point Guard for Golden State Warriors) Mr. Rushing is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Judy Fuller; children, Paula Manning and husband, Paul, Susan Fulmer, Lisa Crews, and Terry Holley; grandchildren, Tyler Manning, Ryan Fulmer, Molly Fulmer, Crystal Smitherman, T.J. Holley, Jerard Toney, Daniel Crews, and Nick Crews; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Fulmer, Bashe Fulmer, Jonathan Toney, Rosalee Toney, and Ayah Grier; siblings, Lola Raley and Shirley Rushing; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and former co-workers. He is preceded in death by his wife of thirty-two years, Genova Rushing; children, Steven Mark Rushing, Paul Crews, Becky Lynn Rushing, and Kammy Holley; parents, Manford and Lillian Rushing; and sister, Maxine Rushing. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Landmark Nursing Home, Dr. Thapa, Dr. O’Linde, and the staff at Glenwood Regional Medical Center (ER and Third Floor Nurses Station Staff) for their loving care, and also to all of their family and friends for their prayers.
