Spanky's memory will be in my heart forever. Even though we had only known each other since June of last year, it seems like we've known each other forever. He treated me as his own. Even as he would say he adopted me as his granddaughter by proxy. When I helped him sort out his for his bulletin board, I would learn all about the family. He was obviously very proud of all of you. Even down to his peanut butter loving dogs. I could hear in his voice how excited he was to get to "talk to " her. Even though I could never get him to admit it was his fault they were spoiled on peanut butter . When we were at St Luke's together, he was genuinely concerned about my progress. I had to give him a report every day after therapy. He would even get involved trying give me ideas to make things easier . One day I went down to his room and got the biggest compliment ever from him. He told me I needed to wear this shirt more often because green was my color. From that day forward it became my Paw-Paw shirt. He knew i was struggling with my progress. He always told me not to give up or I would have deal with him. He told me I would have an 11 1/2 shoe up my butt. He would still tell me that when I was trying new things at home but struggling. He quickly learned to deal with stress that I would relax with a root beer. One day he surprised me with several bottles of root beer. Thank you Lisa for the delivery! He was such a caring and loving man. Spanky was one in a million. That green shirt and a Barq's root beer well always have special memories. I even had a special toast to him the evening I found out about his passing. The last time I heard his voice, was a very special moment. He called me when he was settled in his new room. Because he knew I'd be worried. It turned out to be a very special 2 seconds of a phone call . I will truly miss our daily chats Paw-Paw. You taught me so much in such a short time. Love you.
