Obituary of Jerry Jewel Johnson

Bro. Jerry Jewel Johnson was a retired mechanical maintenance supervisor from International Paper Co., and a retired Morehouse Parish Police Juror, where he served as president. He was a member of the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, the Morehouse Economic Development Corp., The Louisiana Work Force Development, The Morehouse Community Coalition, and the Bastrop Rotary Club. He loved Louisiana, our city and our parish and was very civic minded, He often wrote letters to the editor at the Newsstar and Bastrop Enterprise trying to make our area a better place to live and raise a family. He and his wife Charlene loved to travel, they made frequent visits to Branson, MO. They toured Israel and visited Hawaii eight times and visited all fifty states, including Alaska. They also vacationed to eighteen foreign countries and enjoyed numerous cruises. He attended Oak Grove High School and graduated from Bastrop High School and completed several courses at U.L.M.
He is preceded in death by his father, Rush L. Johnson; mother, Lura M. Johnson; wife, Charlene Blocker Johnson; son, Rev. Danny Johnson, a former Kentucky State Representative; three brothers, Alfred W. Johnson, Sherman K. Johnson, and Huey P. Johnson.
Jerry is survived by his two children, Treasa Barrett and husband James “Buddy” Barrett, Rita Stuckey and husband Jerry Stuckey; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Johnson; ten grandchildren, Ginger Greenwood and husband Chad, Jamie Barrett and wife Tatum, Tifani Thomas and husband Chad, Jerilyn Blackman and husband Josh, Samuel Stuckey and wife Kristin, Tave’ Garza and husband Daniel, Boaz Johnson, Danielle Johnson, Judah Johnson and wife Casey, and Sarah Worner and husband Kyle; he is also blessed with twenty-four great grandchildren.
He loved his family and his beloved wife Charlene, of sixty-six years and provided for them quite well, he was a hard worker in everything that he was involved in, and after he retired he acquired several rental houses and did most of the maintenance work on them. He was a faithful member to his church, Bonne Idee Assembly. He loved to sing Gospel songs and write songs, he had a studio CD cut of songs that he had written entitled “God’s Country”. The CD is also offered on the computer by cdbaby. He loved people and will be sorely missed.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 PM Monday, April 4, 2022 at Bonne Idee Assembly with Pastor Jerry Stuckey and Bro. James “Buddy” Barrett officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 4 PM - 6 PM at Goldens
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Jamie Barrett, Samuel Stuckey, Boaz Johnson, Judah Johnson, Chad Greenwood, Adron Greenwood, and Layton Rainbolt.
Honorary pallbearers are Josh Blackman, Chad Thomas, Tommy Rice, Richard Freeland, Michael D. Johnson, and Mitchell Johnson.
