Graveside funeral services for DeVohn B. Hayes are scheduled for 10 AM Monday, August 1, 2022, in Causey Cemetery, with Bro. Dennis Hackler officiating. Services will be under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Hayes, a member of Cherry Ridge Baptist Church, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022, at the age of eighty-seven. He retired from International Paper Company after twenty-five years and from 1949-1950, he had the Rhythm Wrangler Band, and sang on KTRY. He was a part of the High School Rodeo Association and in 1953, he was the LA Champion Bareback Rider. Mr. Hayes was an avid fisherman and hunter, winning many bass tournaments. He was inducted into the National Fishing Hall of Fame on December 24, 1986, for having the world record Buffalo Small Mouth, weighing 43 pounds, eight ounces. Mr. Hayes was also instrumental in forming the Morehouse Parish Rescue Unit in 1987.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Patricia Murphy Hayes (Patricia was the love of his life, and he would always say he was the only man she ever dated); daughter, Kristi Stockle; son, Kit DeWayne Hayes; grandson, Branigan Conner Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hayes is preceded in death by his father, Eddie Mallory Hayes; mother, Irene Morgan Hayes; brother, Eddie Newton Hayes; half siblings, Avorie Brown, John Lee Hayes, James Hayes, and Maude Burgess.
