Mr. Chain, a retired production superintendent for International Paper Company, an Air Force Veteran, and member of Bethel Baptist Church passed away Monday, September 5, 2022. Bowling was a big hobby in his younger years and he and his wife were in a bowling league. He won numerous trophies for bowling perfect games (all strikes) with the score of 300. He found out he loved fishing more and switched hobbies. This love of fishing was evident to all who knew him. Mr. Chain would be on the water before dawn no matter the temperature, hot or cold, raining or shine and he had all the gear to accommodate any type of weather. Camping became a hobby of he and his wife after he retired from the mill. He also loved music and appreciated the distinct sound of a Martin guitar. He taught himself to play with the help of a buddy when they were in the service. His ear for music was God given and he could tune any guitar by ear. Mr. Chain loved playing and when his brothers and nephews were around, the guitars were coming out. He gave forty-three years to IP and worked his way from the bottom to the top of paper production and was well respected among most who worked equally beside him or under his supervision. He was a man of his word and had much grit and strength in his character. Mr. Chain could be hard as steel but always fair. He had many friends, and the value of his character is what they talk about most. The love of his entire family was unmatched in this life and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Chain is survived by his daughters, Janet Fortner and husband Burl, Carla West and husband John, #3daughter, Lori Musgrove Couture, #4 daughter, Regina Kingston; son, Kenny Chain; grandsons, Matthew Fortner, Joshua Moore; granddaughter, Courtney Jackson; great grandchildren, Zy Thompson, Carleigh Fortner; sister-in-law, Miriam Chain and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
