Services for Mrs. Mary Lynn Spann Sanders will be held 10:00 am Friday, September 16, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Bastrop, Louisiana, with Bro. Bo Stark and Bro. Don Williams officiating. Services will be under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Mrs. Sanders passed away peacefully on September 13, 2022, in Houston, Texas. Born November 29, 1954, in Monroe, Louisiana, Mary Lynn made her home in Bastrop with her husband Robert. After moving to Columbus, Mississippi for 28 years, they returned to their home in Bastrop to enjoy retirement. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing of all types, especially for her children and grandchildren. “M” was known for her giving spirit, her loyalty to family and friends, and being a faithful follower of Christ. Her candor and humor kept those around her smiling. She was always up for an adventure and never missed an opportunity to create memories with those she loved. Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband of 43 years, Samuel Robert Sanders III, her children Sarah Sanders Pepper (Barrett), Gina Sanders Downs (Ross), Amy Sanders Hoover (Roger), Holly Sanders Gay (David), Samuel Robert “Robby” Sanders IV (Janie), and Wendy Sanders Langley (Lester). Grandchildren, Sam Lucille Pepper, Barrett Landis “Bear” Pepper, Earl Ross Downs III (Hayden), Emily Wynn Downs, Evan Michael Downs, Ellis Kate Downs, Ross Evrett Downs, Peyton Boehm Hoover (Julianna), Mason Douglas Hoover, Carter Allen Hoover, Logan Cole Travis, and Layton Cade Wheeler. One great-grandchild, Earl Ross “Dru” Downs IV. She is also survived by her siblings, Bruce Spann (Debbie) and Brenda Rookard (Tommy) and numerous nieces and nephews. She preceded in death by her son, Samuel Paul Sanders, her parents, L.E. “Babe” and Carolyn Spann and her nephew Tracy Spann. Serving as pallbearers are Larry Friday, Terrell Hawkins, Glen Melton, Bo Pepper, Robert Shaw, and Carl Turpin. Honorary pallbearers are the men of the First Baptist Church Men’s Prayer Group. The family will receive visitors at First Baptist Church beginning at 9:00 am with the service to follow at 10:00 am. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Downs Family Cemetery at 5725 Candice Lane in Bastrop. A change of footwear is suggested for the processional. Family and friends are invited to a reception and fellowship at the Downs Home afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Gideons International, Morehouse Gideons, P.O.Box 1209, Bastrop, LA 71221-1209.
