Obituary of Green William "G.W." Harris

Mr. Green William Harris “G.W.” of Bastrop, LA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 1, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be at Pine Grove Community Church on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 2 PM. Visitation will be held from 12 PM until 2 PM prior to the service. Brother Doug Tilbury Edwards and grandson, Chad McKee officiating. Interment will follow at the Stevenson Cemetery, Bastrop, LA.
He was a hard worker all his life. Mr. Harris was compassionate about carpentry. He also loved mowing his yard, clipping the pasture on the tractor, gardening and shelling purple hull peas by hand. Mr. Harris was a member of the church he was honored to build, Pine Grove Community Church. He loved listening to gospel music and would drive near and far to attend a singing for as long as his health allowed. Mr. Harris had a very close relationship with his Lord, he prayed daily thanking God for his life, before all of his meals and asked often for God’s forgiveness of his sins. He was a true role model of a Christian.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Ms. Mary Agnes Harris of Bastrop, LA; Brother, Royce (Lou Marion) of Seminole, TX; sister-in-law, Loraine Harris of Seminole, TX; sisters, Jewel Ruth and Betty Sue Middlebrooks both of Bastrop, LA; sons, Gary (Sharon), Ronny and Keith Harris; daughters, Gwen Barnett and Pam Hammons. Seventeen grandchildren, Chip (Brittany), Nick (Ruth), Jeremy (Lyndsey), Ron (Kaley) and Dillon Harris, Gina, Jessica (Cliff) Pennington, Whitney (Brad) Barfield, Courtney (Steven)White, Stacy (Kevin) McDaniel, Kurt, Greg and Valerie Little, Chad (Shawna) and Shawn (Winter) McKee, Kayla Bertrand and Hannah Harris. Also, forty-five great grandchildren. Seven great, great grandchildren, as well as a special family friend Topsy Freeland, and a special niece and nephew, Robbie and Ricky Carroll.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Berry and Robbie Cole Harris; father-in-law, Oscar Lum and mother-in-law, Nancy Lum; brothers, Calvin, Lee, Hersey, James (Boogie), Ernest and Pete Harris; sister, Marie Moore; brother-in-law, Claude Lum; sister-in-law, Diane Mann and three infant children.
Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Little, Ron Harris, Shawn McKee, Dakota Austin, Brad Barfield and Kenny McDaniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddy Smith, Anthony Johnson, Melvin, Harold, Ricky Harris, Calvin Stewart and Johnny Middlebrooks.
The Harris family would like to thank Stat Home Health, Dr. Allen Spires and staff. The staff of St. Joseph Hospice care, his nurse, Mrs. Darlene and Dr. Greg Green. A special thanks to Valerie Little and Jason Dykes for providing care of comfort in their home.
