The family will receive vistations prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. Ms. McKoin, a resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, at the age of seventy-three. She was a graduate of Bastrop High School class of 1967 and later attended Bastrop VO Technical School with her mother, Virginia McKoin, where she received her associates degree in bookkeeping. She went on to make a career in bookkeeping for herself, working her way up from managing the books of local farmer's to overseeing payroll and accounts receivable at the Morehouse Country Club, Century 21 Realty, Seligman's Dept. Store and Bastrop Daily Enterprise. Gloria ultimately finished her career as the Treasurer of the Morehouse Parish Police Jury. Tech-savvy, Gloria also adapted to the changing demands of her career field, mastering the latest accounting software programs with each passing year. In addition to her professional pursuits, Ms. McKoin loved giving back to the community, volunteering her time and working at the Rose Theatre as well as at St. Joseph Catholic School. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and her thoughtfulness knew no bounds! Gloria also enjoyed arts and crafts and was known for her artistic ability and beautiful handwriting. Some of the things she enjoyed most were cross-stitching and needlepoint projects. One thing she wasn't a fan of was cooking! She always said, “When I have a momma who is next door and can cook like she can, there is no need!” Her laugh was infectious! It filled the room and made others join in. Above all, Ms. McKoin loved and cherished her family and friends! She is survived by her daughter, Mindy Tessa McKoin; grandchildren, Zuri Jean Ma and Zia Lei Virginia Ma; her brother and his wife Frankie Dean and Judy McKoin; her nephew and his wife Kris and Ginger McKoin; her nephew and his wife Jason and Michelle McKoin; and her many great nephews and nieces. Ms. McKoin is preceded in death by her parents, Joe Frank and Virginia Helen McKoin. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting people can donate to the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society or any charity of their choice.
