Jewell Courtney Wright, 93, Canton, Georgia (formerly of Monroe) passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
Born in El Dorado, Jewell grew up in Spearsville. After high school, she began a 31-year career with Bellsouth then later transferred to Monroe. She was a devoted Believer & Christ follower, was active in First Monroe Baptist Church and loved studying the Bible. After retirement she became known as the “pie queen” for her delicious and beautiful homemade pies.
Jewell is preceded in death by parents, John Frank Courtney & Ada Tullis Courtney, sister Norma Wilson (Cecil), brothers Harvey and Harold Courtney (Imogene), nieces Jane Doughty and Paula Vanderpool and numerous friends. She is survived by daughter Donna Younts Akins, son-in-law Wayne Akins, grandson Daniel Akins (Ally), nieces Tomie Anderson and Micki Mitchell.
Please join our family Tuesday May 9, 2023 at Golden Funeral Home, 2016 E. Madison Ave., Bastrop. Visitation 10:30–11:30am, Celebration of Life 11:30 followed by a brief graveside service at Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to either First Monroe Baptist or a favorite charity.
