Harry O’Neil Mayo, eighty-five of Jones, Louisiana, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023. He was born June 17, 1938, in Jones, Louisiana, to the late Doc Riley Mayo and Gladys Lee Mayo. Harry loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his family. Harry was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Harry was a farmer for many years in Morehouse Parish and Ashley County Arkansas. Harry also served in the United States Army beginning 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1962. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Billie Francis Mayo; children, Monica Mayo Talley of Monroe, Louisiana, Tracy O’Neil Mayo of Jones, Louisiana, Amy Mayo Hobbs (Jimmie) of Edmond, Oklahoma and Jennifer Mayo Harper of Hampton, Arkansas; grandchildren, Justin Overacker, Chelsea Talley, Garrett Hobbs, Tristen Mayo, Nicholas Mayo, Madison Hobbs, and Harrison Martin; great grandchildren, Olivia Talley, Hudson Talley and Rowyn Colburn; sister, Clara Lee Barthol. Mr. Mayo is preceded in death by his siblings, D.R. Mayo, Bobby Mayo and Ella Mae Baugh. Visitation will be held at Golden Funeral Home in Bastrop, Louisiana on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 21, at10:00 AM at Golden Funeral Home, with Bro. Gary Traylor. Pallbearers will be Tristen Mayo, Nicholas Mayo, Garrett Hobbs, Harrison Martin, Lamar Frisby and Darin Pruitt. Honorary pallbearers, Ed Bain and Leland Pruitt. Burial services will follow at La-Ark Cemetery in Jones, Louisiana. Memorials may be made to La-Ark Cemetery in care of Leland Pruitt, 17319 La-Ark Rd., Jones LA., 71250.
