Red was a lifelong friend. He landed in a pasture behind our house and gave me my first plane ride. He always had time to speak to everyone and will be missed. My condolences to Tommy and family.

My sincere condolences to the Beard family. My first flight in an airplane was with Mr. Red when I was just a youngster. He flew me and my Dad over to Davis Island on the Mississippi River. Knowing it was my first flight he made sure I got the ‘full experience’ of being in a plane. It was amazing watching him pilot that plane and it’s a memory I’ll never forget. He was a fine man and will be missed by many.

Red was my Dad's favorite nephew. We lived in Monroe when I was a young teenager and I will never forget flying in his planes a few times. He was an amazing man he could land on a Mississippi sand bar or drop down from the trees and land on grass field. I loved going to his deer camp even after we moved back to Knoxville we went every year around Christmas. Its a shame how friends and family drift apart. Time is gone with the wind but never forgotten.

My brother Jerry was killed in a plane crash on August 23rd in 1980 so he cannot share any thoughts at the time. I will post a thought from both of us.
Daddy taught both of us how to be men. He made sure we did things that men do. Horse riding - Hunting - Working - all of those things. We just assumed everyone had those privileges but many were not that fortunate. In all of those things, we never knew how good we had it back then.
It would be great to go back to those childhood days and live some of that life again. We enjoyed the things that our father provided for us and we enjoyed his great friends that were a part of his life back then.
There are a lot of wonderful memories to cherish for many years to come.

Tommy and family,
I am deeply sorry for your great loss of a fine father and man. I have such fond memories of your father and family when we were young. He was a full of character and a wonderful witty man. My mother, Bridget loved her cousin, Red!
Much love, Molly Distefano Hoffeld (Bridget’s Daughter)
