She went on to earn several certificates of nursing from Fresno Junior College, Visalia College of the Sequoias, and Northeast Louisiana University. She had an incredible 51-year career as a nurse. Hickory Manor Nursing Home of Bastrop is where she spent most of those years in various roles, including as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Assistant Nursing Administrator, Social Services Designee, EMT, and finally, Nursing Home Administrator. She received “Nurse of the Year” and was involved in The National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses.
Benita married Johnny “Buddy” Jordan in 1956. The couple relocated to Bastrop, LA, where they would be married for 28 years before Buddy’s death in 1984. Together, they had two children – Kelvin and Barbara Ann, and were very involved in the Bastrop community. Later in life, Benita would relocate to Downsville, LA to assist family. She was a member of North Bastrop Church of God and Piney Woods Christian Church of Downsville. She enjoyed going on adventures with and having game nights with her friends, watching her stories, caring for people, and most of all, being a grandmother. She leaves behind an incredible legacy for everyone who knew her, one of strong character, unwavering loyalty, solid faith in her Savior, and the picture of a Godly woman.
