Obituary of James Lee Bennett

Funeral services for Mr. James Lee Bennett, age eighty-four, are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip McCready officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM, service time.
Mr. Bennett, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024. He is a veteran of the United States Army where he was stationed in Alaska. He enjoyed fishing at his camp on Lake Enterprise, watching the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a special nick name for each one of them. He also loved his fur babies dearly; Jack and Tucker were his shadow and held a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years; Gloria Burgess Bennett; daughters, Cgay Bankston and husband Alan, Terri Grimes and husband Ted; son, David Wimbish; sister, Theresa Barthol and husband Billy; sisters-in-law, Carolyn White and Linda Burgess; brother, Mike Bennett; grandchildren, Tara Laseter, Rusty Wimbish and wife Tracy, Charlie Laseter,Jr. and wife Tamatha, Zack Wimbish and wife Shey, Cesli Grimes and Drew White, Whitney Wimbish, Carli Haynes and husband Vesper and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bennett is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lucy Bennett; sister, Barbara Lowery and husband Bruce; brother, Donald Wayne Bennett; grandson, Gabe Wimbish; sister-in-law, Cindy Bennett and brother-in-law, Cubee O. Burgess.
Serving as pallbearers are: Vesper Haynes, Charlie Laseter, Jr., Perry Book, Zack Wimbish, Rusty Wimbish, Alex Maldonado, Mark Bolding and Marvin Bolding. Honorary pallbearers are: Cecil Sims, Willie Nelson, Drew White and Bill Bennett.
