Don was born in Bastrop, LA, on October 19, 1957, and passed away peacefully April 15, 2024, at the age of sixty-six, after a lengthy illness. Don was an active member of First Baptist Church in Bastrop, LA, for fifty-seven years, serving as a deacon for more than thirty-five of those years. He loved His Lord Jesus Christ and served him faithfully, as long as his health would allow. He was an avid sports fan, an exceptional athlete in his younger years, and he shared that athletic enthusiasm by coaching young boys in Dixie Baseball. Don was one of the longest surviving liver transplant patients in the nation, living almost thirty-two years after his surgery in 1992. Don is survived by his brother, Rodney Dew and wife, Diana, of Bastrop; a nephew and niece whom he loved as his own, Charles Dew, and wife, Rachel of Monroe, and Caitlin Hughes and husband, Owen of Bridgend, Wales U.K.; two great-nephews, Rowan James Dew of Monroe, and Charlie Desmond Hughes of Bridgend, Wales U.K. He is preceded in death by his parents, Van and Hazel Dew; a sister, Donna June Dew; maternal grandparents, Johnnie and Lora Reppond; and paternal grandparents, Howard and Roberta Dew. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Quality Long Term Care, Body and Soul Services, the staff at Lagniappe Nursing Home, Dr. Lisa Post, and the nursing staff of Morehouse General Hospital for their care of Don over the past few months. Serving the family as pallbearers are James Yeldell, Carl Turpin, Jr., Mark Robinson, Heath Greer, Ken White, and Wayne Philley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 620 East Madison Ave. Bastrop, LA, 71220.
