Peggy J. Brooks, 84, of Bastrop, Louisiana, passed peacefully on June 17, 2024. She was born Peggy Jeanette Henry, July 10, 1939, to John Pickens and Gurtha Lee (Erwin) Henry of Hermitage, Arkansas in Bradley County.
Peggy was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as a nurse at McGehee Hospital, in McGehee, Arkansas, for most of her 32 year nursing career, as well as Nursing Home facilities in both McGehee and Lake Village, Arkansas. Peggy was well known for her caring nature, generosity and big heart. She never met a stranger. She became a published author in 2012 when her childhood stories were brought to life, with the release of her intriguing book, “The Stories My Children Didn’t Want to Hear”, where hundreds were sold on Amazon and Books a-Million. She loved doing book signings in Bradley County in her later years. Other hobbies included singing, puzzle books, scrapbooking, collecting various items over the years and creating
beautiful bracelets and beaded jewelry. She was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist church, Bastrop, Louisiana. She was a one of a kind mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Oscar Wayne Brooks of Bastrop, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Paul E. Bray Jr. and wife Tammy of Rison, Arkansas; daughter, Loretta Williams of Bastrop, Louisiana; grandchildren, Johnny Paul Knight and wife Candi Calvert Knight of Monticello, Arkansas, Samantha A. McNeely of Bastrop, Louisiana, Tonya McCoy of Rison, Arkansas, Paul E. Bray III and wife Melody of Rison, Arkansas, Shada M. Hamilton and Chad of Calico Rock, Arkansas; seven great grandchildren, Landree Rowen McNeely of Bastrop, Louisiana, Declan Claire, Carsyn Calvert and Harrison Carter Knight of Monticello, Arkansas, Paul Earnest the IIII and Wesley William Bray of Rison, Arkansas, Shyla Grace of Calico Rock, Arkansas, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Angeline Bray Knight and son-in-law Larry Verlis Knight; sister, Linda Ladelle Wheless; brother, John Leslie Henry; former husband Paul E. Bray Sr. and her parents John Pickens Henry and Gurtha Kidd.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
