Dr. Cox took care of 4 generations of my family. I had the privilege of working with him my entire nursing career. I could write a book on the things he taught me. The past 10 years I had the honor of taking care of all of his home health patients. We spoke on the phone daily—sometimes multiple times a day and at least once a week he would come out of an exam room to find me standing in his office door patiently waiting for a few minutes of his time. Regarding patient care he taught me what to worry about and what didn’t warrant worrying over. He taught me how to use my best judgment and most importantly he taught me that it’s ok to sometimes say “I don’t know”. We made house calls together from time to time and we had an understanding of each other that just made us a great team.
A work day without Carter Cox is not the same anymore.
Thank you for allowing me to care for him in his last days. He truly was my hero and I am so thankful for the blessing that he was to me.

Where do I begin? I have been a patient of Dr. Cox all of my adult life. There was never a time that I called the office and was not accommodated. Nothing was minor, if I was concerned he was concerned. What I will truly always remember is the one time I got a smile out of him with some off hand comment that I made. That in itself was a rarity. Rest on Dr. Cox you have earned it and you will be missed.

I could write many memories from the 17 years we lived in Bastrop and Dr. Cox took care of us. I'll just share one, because it exemplifies the kind of physician and kind of person he was.
My wife was needing some medicine one day and we showed up at his office without an appointment just in case he could work us in. It turned out the office had closed early for some reason. But he was inside and apparently had noticed us through his window. As we started to drive away, he came hurrying out the door to stop us and ask if we needed any help. Within a few minutes he wrote out the needed prescription. There were many other times where I would see him go the second mile for people. He had a caring heart.

Dr. Cox was like a member of our family. He came to our house when my dad died, brought my husband back when he had a heart attack, pulled my mom through when he didn't think she would make it and took care of me and my children. He was a gift from God and always gave all the credit to God. We will always remember him.

My name is Gladys Sampson Clacks-Everhart. I was a long time patient of Dr. Cox. I initially was Dr Carter’s and Dr. Cox’s patient, since the age of 16 yrs of age. But when she passed, Dr. Cox became my full time primary care physician. I’m now retired and 70yrs young. Dr Cox and Dr Carter were both caring and wonderful doctors. He was also my sister Donna Anderson’s doctor too. He will be missed by all as Dr. Carter was. Rest in peace Dr. Cox, you guys are together again.

Just don't know where to begin. Dr. Cox has been my friend and doctor for over 50 years-even when we moved to Oklahoma in 2004 - he remained my doctor. He always answered my calls and helped me with anything when I needed him to. He was always there for me through so much, I am so thankful that we saw him in April of this year when we came to Louisiana; and yes, he was providing me with his great doctor skills. And our hearts go out to his great staff, Brenda, Sarah, Katherine-I know this is a difficult time for them, Dr. Cox had the most friendly and caring atmosphere in his office you could have. Dr. Carter was my wife's doctor - we are blessed to have been associated with such wonderful people. There is no better person than Dr. Cox, not enough words, but here are a few: (kind, compassionate, caring, strong, brilliant doctor, dedicated, and so much more). He will be missed so much in the community, he is irreplaceable. While our hearts are sad and hurt over losing him, we rejoice that he is in heaven with his precious wife, and Jesus greeted him with these words:
"Well done, good and faithful servant!" Matthew 25:21

Before I met him personally, I heard often of this physician that offered the best bedside manner a patient could only hope to receive; then I met him & immediately understood the sentiments that had been expressed so overtly. I recognized instantly that he had the utmost passion for the profession that he was known for. The wisdom he possessed was unmatched, his professionalism was rare & greatly appreciated. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him for 7 years now & I feel blessed to have been in his presence. On Friday, June 21st he brought me some of his home-grown delicious blueberries & we conversed for a little bit, he then said have a good weekend, I’ll see you later, I wished him the same, thanked him for my blueberries & said goodbye. The following week, I waited for him to walk into our office at MGH but God had other plans. Dr. Cox left an impression that’s going to be hard to beat. This community, this city & the medical field has suffered a great loss. My deepest sympathies are with his family. He will always be remembered & deeply missed by so many.

I’ll never forget when my mom passed away I called and told them and she said he would want to talk to me. He told me how sorry he was and said your mom wasn’t just my patient she was my friend! I had the privilege of not only being a nearly lifelong patient but to have worked for him in a fashion by being a x-ray technologist at the hospital for a short time. He was always a polite and friendly person and made sure his patient’s always got the best care, (he could make the nurses and orderlies jump to it with just a look, lol). The world seems diminished with his passing. Prayers to you all. He will be missed

One day during an office visit, I was gushing my thanks to him for a recent treatment which had made a huge difference in my health and overall well being. His reply? “Don’t thank me, thank the Good Lord, I just work here.” I’ve never known someone so brilliant with such true humility and love for the Lord. He would probably hate that I even told that. But I say to him today, Doctor, for a life so well lived, by one so loved and respected by so many, it was bound to happen.

A compassionate physician, he exhibited an old-school thoughtfulness that made everyone feel cherished and heard. Dr. Cox and Dr. Camilla were active at Morehouse General Hospital when I first began to practice. They were both the epitome of caring committed physicians. She was so very sweet and kind and Dr. Cox was so professional that they were both role models for young physicians. I will never forget how he and Dr. Baker would always show up at the emergency room in the middle of the night dressed in coat and tie to see their patients when they came in. I don’t know where he found the energy to work so hard and take care of so many people, but that was the nature of being a doctor in the days of his and my father's long careers. The Bastrop community, as well as Morehouse parish, was well served by wonderful group of physicians. I referred to them as real doctors..
