Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Zack Hamilton are scheduled for 2 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2024, in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery (Monroe), with Bro. Dennis Hackler and Bro. Bubba Hoggett officiating.
Mrs. Hamilton, a resident of Sterlington, LA. and member of First Baptist Sterlington, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Monday, October 14, 2024, at home surrounded by loving family members.
She is survived by her daughters, Lu Ann Butler (James) and Denise Hamilton; siblings, Randy Jones (Patsy), Patricia Phillips (Mike), Linda Maddox, and Scotty Jones (Jan); grandchildren, Travis Fowler (Holli), Tyler Fowler (Amanda), Robert Butler (Shannon), Frances Anne Manning (Dennis), Gloria McRae-Spencer (Duncan); great-grandchildren, Saylor Schrock, Tyler Henley Fowler, Hannah McRae-Spencer, Amelia McRae-Spencer, Jameson Jones, Jemma Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mrs. Hamilton is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Eileen Jones; husband, Luther Hamilton; siblings, Marion Jones, Rodney Jones, Marty Jones, Kathryn "Kat" Lutrick; and granddaughter, Allison Butler.
Serving as pallbearers will be Travis Fowler, Tyler Fowler, Josh Jones, Bubba Moore, Jordan Jones, and Sam Winston.
Throughout her 87 years, Mrs. Hamilton had many roles in her life. In her engaging southern way, she would list being a wife to Mr. Luther, a mother to Lu Ann and Denise, and a grandmother to Travis and Tyler as her greatest and most fulfilling roles. Mrs. Hamilton also served 36 years with the United States Postal Service, the majority of which she spent in Sterlington, LA. After her time with the USPS, she worked for 15 years at Luther's Grocery. Mrs. Hamilton also considered her 50 years as a Sunday school teacher and choir member as a role she fulfilled for her Lord and Savior, Jesus.
Time spent at Luther's grocery and the church allowed Mrs. Hamilton the opportunity to be a constant source of encouragement to the community. Her quiet spirit, sweet smile, and compassion strengthened and encouraged the hearts of many. A talk with Mrs. Hamilton would make you feel loved, and if you walked into her presence feeling like a nobody, you left with hope knowing that Mrs. Hamilton saw your worth.
Mrs. Hamilton is one of the rare people who looks for the good in others. She threw some more love or service their way when the good was not found. And, when necessary, she took to her letter-writing skills and provided further instruction and encouragement. If you are the holder of a letter from Mrs. Hamilton, also known as Aunt Zack or Mamaw, you cherish the effect!
One of Mrs. Hamilton's latest roles involved writing a book titled, Simon the Saucer. One week before her passing, she received the final copies of her children's story, which beautifully shares the redemption story of salvation through Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. She has now met Jesus face-to-face and encouraged her family to rest assured, He's coming back. Look up!
The two people Mrs. Hamilton influenced the most are her daughters, Lu Ann and Denise. They cherish the many lessons they learned from their mama. Of course, Mrs. Hamilton also shaped the lives of many of her family members. Her family knows her as a giver and a doer!
The roles of serving God, her family, and her community brought Mrs. Hamiliton great joy. She lived a life committed to knowing Christ and making Him known to her family and community. There's no telling how many meals she cooked, prayers she prayed, and letters of encouragement and instruction she wrote.
With everything she accomplished and did, the best way to describe the life and soul of Marjorie Zacquleen Jones Hamilton is – a beloved child of God, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her children are eternally grateful for the mother she was. Her love for God and others will continue to guide and comfort them. She will be greatly missed, but in Mrs. Hamilton's own words, "All is well."
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to Dr. Greg Green - Christi and Takeithia; Elara Caring Home Health – Brook and Sandy; Elara Caring Hospice Staff; Good Shepherd Personal Care – Kimberly; and special friends Teresa Thurmon, and Jennifer Yarbrough.
