Funeral services for Mr. Donald Ray Sistrunk, age 77, are scheduled for 2 PM Friday, January 17 at Bonne Idee Assembly in Mer Rouge, LA with Bro. Jerry Stuckey, Bro. Andrew Sistrunk and Bro. Brandon Sistrunk officiating. Interment will follow in Mer Rouge Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5 PM until 7 PM at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Sistrunk, a resident of Bastrop, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025. He was a member of Bonne Idee Assembly in Mer Rouge, LA. He is a retiree of Marathon Oil Company where he made a name for himself as a great diesel mechanic. His hobbies included working with his hands, inventing and rebuilding things. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend. Being an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors especially gardening, chickens and quail. He also had a keen interest in the stock market. He proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Sistrunk; daughter, Letha Heckford and husband, Drew; son, Donald Dewayne Sistrunk and wife, Kristie; sisters, Sandra Harper, Sharon Torres and husband, Mike; brother, Rev. David Sistrunk and wife, Beverly; grandchildren, Brandon Sistrunk and wife, Ashley, Andrew Sistrunk and wife, Laura, and Mason Heckford; great grandchildren, Riley Sistrunk, Landon Sistrunk, Macie Sistrunk, Nora Sistrunk, Kayden Gilbert, Kamren Sistrunk, Kolby Sistrunk and Kingston Sistrunk. Mr. Sistrunk is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Amber Lee; wife, Esther Shockey Sistrunk; brothers, Calvin Sistrunk, Jimmy Sistrunk, Thomas Sistrunk and sister, Carolyn Turner.
