Obituary of Henry Lee Dew

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Henry Lee “Hank” Dew are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at Carter Cemetery, with Bro. Tim Post officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at Golden Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Mr. Dew was born October 18, 1920 to parents, Zemrie and Fannie Dew and passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019, at the age of ninety-nine. He was retired from the United States Marine Corp where he was a member of the Third Marine Defense Battalion that was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. Later, he participated in the battle for Midway Island and made the initial landing at Guadalcanal. Near the closing days of the war in the Pacific, he joined the First Marine Division on Okinawa for the final seven weeks of fighting there. Gunnery Sergeant Dew wore six battle stars and twelve campaign ribbons, of which, 2 were personal decorations. He later, worked for and retired from Boeing Aircraft.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Zemrie and Fannie Dew; the mother of his children, Louise Dew, second wife, Pauline Dew, and third wife Irene Dew; sister, Estelle Corbin; and brothers, Bruin Dew and Thomas Dew.
Survivors include his daughter Joyce Parker, and husband Ray; sons, Lee Dew, and wife Pat and Wally Dew, and wife Mary Lou; and brother, Jewel Dew; grandchildren, Sharon, Brian, Chad, Danielle, Jon, Michele, Dawn, Bobbie, Donna, and Connie; twenty-six great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge Savannah Court and Heart of Hospice for their love, devotion, and care for Mr. Dew.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
