Funeral services for Mr. George Perry Book, Sr. are scheduled for 2 PM Friday, February 7, 2020, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Rev. Casey Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove South Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 6, 2020, from 5 PM until 7 PM at Goldens. Mr. Book, a resident of Bastrop, LA and retired manager of Ogden’s Cleaners, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the age of seventy-three. He served in the United States Marine Corps where he was a Vietnam Combat veteran and a purple heart recipient. During the time of his service in the military, Mr. Book was a boxer and a Golden Glove Champion. He loved hunting, fishing, grilling, and playing cards. Mr. Book was a volunteer boxing coach for many years, mentoring several teens at the Bastrop Boys Club. He never met a stranger and gave unselfishly. Mr. Book will be missed dearly by all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ellen Book; daughter, Lisa Lang and husband Lamar of Bastrop, LA; son, George “Perry” Book, Jr. and wife Leslie of Bastrop, LA; step-son, John Michael Williamson and wife Veronica of Waldorf, MD; brothers, Richard Book and wife Jean of Bastrop, LA, Louis Clyde Book II and wife Tonya of Bastrop, LA, John Book and wife Jan of Bastrop, LA, Robert Wayne Wyatt and wife Leslie of Bastrop, LA; grandchildren, Taylor Nobles and husband Ethan, Ashton Lang, Marla Book; step-granddaughter, Camille Williamson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Book is preceded in death by his parents, Louis C. Book, Sr. and Opal Blood Book; sister, Shirley Book Wyatt; brother-in-law, Rodney Wyatt; granddaughter, Lauren Lang; and nephew, David Book. Serving as pallbearers will be John Michael Williamson, Ryan Westbrook, Louis Book, Ron Book, Wayne Deshazo, Robert McGee, Mark Triplet and Charles Lee Laseter, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Cliff Petty, Todd Westbrook, Zach Westbrook, Jerry Bolin, and special card playing friends. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Louisiana Hunters for Heroes at 347 Moseley's Bluff Rd Downsville,La 71234.
