Funeral services for Mr. Robert Wayne “Corn Dog” DeShazo, age seventy three of Bastrop, LA, are scheduled for 2 PM Saturday, February 20, 2021 in the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Clyde Pearcy officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 PM until 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be held in the Northeast Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery, Rayville, LA. Mr. DeShazo, a retired pipefitter and member of the Veteran’s Home Chapel, passed away peacefully February 16, 2021, surrounded by family. Wayne was a cherished father, an amazing father-in-law, a wonderful brother, a blessing to his grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as a faithful friend to many. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1969 and spent time in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 as a machine gunner. He also served for 9 years in the National Guard and 9 years in law enforcement. He was the 1964 Mississippi State Golden Glove Champion and a 1965 Graduate of Bastrop High School. Mr. DeShazo is preceded in death by his mother, Dorthy Jenkins; father, Willie DeShazo; brother, Billy DeShazo; and a great grandson, Peyton Malone. Mr. DeShazo is survived by the mother of his children, Linda DeShazo; sisters, Lendel Holmes and husband Harold, Donna Jones and husband Bill, Cindy Welk and husband Steve; brothers, David DeShazo and wife Denise, Donnie DeShazo and wife Laura, Stanley DeShazo and wife Vickie, David Lowther; children, Chris DeShazo and wife Tabatha, Tiffany Vidrine and husband Mitch; grandchildren, Adam DeShazo and wife Heather, Kyle McDuffie and wife Hannah, Whitney Malone and husband Justin, Sean Sanford, Emma Sanford, Drake Vidrine, Alana DeShazo, Jenna Vidrine; great grandchildren, Aiden DeShazo, Jordan Malone, Chloe DeShazo, and Jacob Malone; companion, Shoney Franklin. The family would like to take this time to thank the wonderful staff at St. Francis Medical Center, especially Dr. Kamm, Dr. Barron; nurses, Caleb, Sherry, Ashton, Jasmine, Allison, KC, Tonda, Jessica and Heather and the support staff, Darris, Felicia, Nobie and Beba. Special thanks to Lyndie at Premier Hospice for their excellent care. Serving as pallbearers will be, Dennie Gray, Butch Bostick, Bardell Bostick, Charlie Lightfoot, Leroy Piercy and Tony Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be, Duane Thorne, Jerry Wolfe, Shelby Carter, David Thomas and the Combat Veterans.
