I knew Paul when we worked together in Alaska. His son Owen and my daughters grew up together, went to the same daycare. He flew out to Washington to attend my oldest daughters wedding in 1999. Couldn't have asked for a better friend. He always had a great story to tell and we all believed every word, right up to the grin and the wink at the end. Life happened and we lost touch but I always thought about him fondly. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing, but happy he found his love, happiness, fulfillment and a good woman. May you find comfort in all the wonderful memories you shared together. Thank you so much for posting the memorial video and please give Owen our warmest wishes and a hug.

Myra, we are so sorry to learn of Paul's illness and passing. We had met when my son Jack was a little guy and taking classes with Paul in Avon. We remember when you got married in the studio. Paul was a positive influence on Jack and my family. We will have fond memories of Paul in class and on a hike he led before you moved to LA. Please accept our most sincere condolences.
Sincerely,
Maryann Carroll

I first met Master Byrne in 1998 when I started my journey in Taekwon-Do at Mr. Visaggio's Meadowlands Academy of Martial Arts, to which Master Byrne would drive 60 miles every Thursday without a fail to train and to teach. He was a wonderful teacher, an amazing role model, and a man who truly embodied the tenets of Taekwon-Do - courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. Throughout the years, his indomitable spirit would take him across the country to hundreds of workshops, competitions, and testing events within his beloved martial art. It would take him to his Taekwon-Do dojang until the very end, despite all the pains of the illness that robbed us of him. I had the privilege of being taught by Master Byrne during my formative years which shaped who I am today in many ways. I will miss his camaraderie, his humor, and his Taekwon-Do classes. Rest in peace, Master Byrne. Until we train again.

My condolences to all who knew and loved Paul. He always had a smile and amazing stories to tell. That is a gift given to so few...I will miss him dearly.
One memory in particular was a day he waited for his wife Myra to finish work , when she came out to greet him his eyes lit up...I thought wow, that is love.

I have so many awesome stories about Senior Master Paul Byrne. But my favorite was the one he told me about the drop bears from Australia. He shared this story with me one of our many times he gave me a ride to training in New York! The story started when Senior Master was in charge of a group of kids and teenagers. He told the kids about the drop bears of Australia. This was a certain breed of koala bear that had adapted to the deforestation of their land. These Bears became carnivorous ... because of the lack of their primary food source. So the bears would climb high above in the leafless trees.... so when their prey would pass underneath.... the drop bear would fall out of the tree onto their unsuspecting prey!
I would have never believed that anyone would believe such a preposterous story. But to my amazement Senior Master Byrne told this story to my students and their parents at a seminar/BBQ he hosted at his home. I could not believe everyone was captivated by his amazing story of the Drop Bear. I think everyone would
have believed it even to this day! If I didn’t ruin it with my laughter! I was no good for 15 mins I had tears rolling out of my eyes and couldn’t breath! Senior Master Byrne had a great poker face. You never knew if he was fooling with you are speaking the truth! He will be truly missed! I am so lucky I had a chance to get to know and train with such a great person! With nothing but love !
