Obituary of Paul Joseph Byrne

Paul Joseph Byrne, 73, passed away February 15, 2021, at his home in Mer Rouge, Louisiana after a long illness.
Born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, he was a resident of Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey. A devoted father to his son, Owen.
He was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Mr. Byrne was a Boy Scout leader and taught Taekwon-Do at his studio in Avon, New Jersey. Mr. Byrne earned his promotion to Senior Master VIII Degree with the United States Taekwon-Do Federation.
Mr. Byrne met his wife, Myra Duncan, at a Taekwon-Do seminar in 2003. The couple retired to Mer Rouge, Louisiana nine years ago, and became a part of the community where he continued to teach Taekwon-Do at the studio he shared with his stepson, Lance.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Myra, his son Owen, daughter-in-law, Sheila, granddaughter Seraphina, stepchildren, Gena Varner, and her children Tristen and Kallie Jo, and Lance Edwards, with daughter Presli. His brothers James (sister-in-law Luz, Tom (sister-in-law Miriam), Dan, and sisters, Mary Willenbrock and Terry Dalton (brother-in-law Larry), and eight nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Golden Funeral Home, Bastrop, Louisiana on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Visitation will take place at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery immediately after the service.
