I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Franklin’s passing and I hope the family can be comforted in the memory of his wonderful life. In 1978, when I was a young Second Lieutenant, he took the time to sit me down and counsel me. He gave me great advice and from time to time I asked him for more. I respected him and never forgot him even after he retired from the military. He was the epitome of a Warrant Officer and respected by all who knew him. May he Rest In Peace and may the family find solace from the pain of his passing by remembering him as the wonderful man he was.
Respectfully,
Gary Jones, Brigadier General
U.S. Army (retired)

It is the “Soldier”
In Memorial Honor to CW3 Eugene C (Sid) Franklin
Louisiana National Guard
It’s the Soldier,
not the pastor/preacher, who has given us freedom of religion and worship.
It’s the Soldier,
not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It’s the Soldier,
not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It’s the Soldier,
not the demonstration organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble and demonstrate.
It’s the Soldier,
not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It’s the Soldier,
not the politician, who has given us the right to vote, ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It’s the Soldier, Who salutes the Flag, who serves beneath the Flag and whose coffin is draped by the Flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.
The American Soldier does not serve and fight because he hates who is in front of him; he serves and fights because he loves who is behind him.
ETERNAL REST GRANT HIM O LORD AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM.
