Funeral services for George W. “Danny” McGrew, Jr., are scheduled for 11 AM Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Bonita Road Baptist Church, with Bro. Casey Johnson and Bro. Andy Myrick officiating. Interment will follow in Bonita Road Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 5 PM – 7 PM at the church. Mr. McGrew, a resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the age of sixty-six. He was a well-known member of the Morehouse Parish community, having served on the Board of Directors of HeadStart and the Tillou Hunting Club, as well as, a member of Bonita Road Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge Mt. Gerzim. Sheriff McGrew served as a Master Trooper with the Louisiana State Police from 1979-1999. After retiring from the LSP, Danny went on to run for Sheriff of Morehouse Parish where he was elected and served as Sheriff from 2000-2008. After his tenure as Sheriff, he continued to serve at the MPSO until his retirement in 2018. His legacy will continue at the MPSO in the deputies that Sheriff McGrew hired and shared his wisdom with over his long career in law enforcement. Mr. McGrew loved fishing, hunting, visiting with others, and cooking for his family. One of his favorite pastimes was riding the side-by-side and swimming with Zoe. He is survived by his wife of forty-four and a half years, Cindy Byrd McGrew; son, Casey Daniel McGrew and wife, April; granddaughter, Zoe McGrew; sister, Brenda Myrick and husband, Andy; father and mother-in-law, J.V. and Sue Byrd; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Charlie Williams; brother-in-law, Billy Byrd; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. Mr. McGrew is preceded in death by his parents, George W. Sr. and Zelda McGrew; and nieces, Sierra and Savanna Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mike Tubbs, Herman Worsley, Mike Avery, Ronald Oden, Rusty Gean, and Mike Brown.
