Obituary of James Gary Hughes

Funeral services for James Gary Hughes are scheduled for 10 AM Friday, August 18, 2023, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Gary “Juice” Guice Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Red Wing Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 5 PM – 7 PM at Goldens.
On Tuesday, August 15th at 3:04 PM, all of heaven and earth stood still to celebrate the homecoming of James Gary Hughes. He left the worldly plane surrounded by many loved ones. Gary was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church in Brownsboro, TX, and a resident of Tyler, TX. He was born to make people laugh and feel loved. Gary gave his all to help anyone. He loved fiercely, without hesitation, and put his family above himself. He will be greatly missed by so many.
Gary is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Cindy Sumrall Hughes; mother, Thelma Hughes Gill; daughter, Brooke A. Hughes and partner, Andrew Jenkins; son, Corey L. Hughes; sister, Beverly Price and husband, Bill; brothers, Todd Hughes and wife, Sandra, and Chris Hughes and wife, Tara; step-mother, Carolyn Hughes; step-brothers, Mike Antley and wife, Laura, and Glenn Gill and wife, Jenny; step-sisters, Ann Jenkins, Susan Watt, and Peggy Handy; mother and father-in-law, Denzil and Betty Rose Sumrall; sister-in-law, Ruth Hughes; brother-in-law, Marvin Sumrall; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Troy Hughes, Sr.; brother, Troy Hughes, Jr., stepfather, Bobby Gill; and sister-in-law, Pam Sumrall Arceneaux.
Serving as pallbearers will be Marvin Sumrall, Eric Price, Greg Hughes, Walter Wallace, Landon Wallace, and Lance Tyson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Price, Steve Hughes, Lindsey Ray Tyson, Westley Wallace, Len Reagan, Mitchell Jordan, Jeff Taylor, Mike Tubbs, Matt West, and Gary Griffith.
