She taught me kindness, and the art of serving at a young age. Before I truly knew what being a servant meant, I knew she was the definition of it. Always an encourager, no matter her distance or circumstance. Loved me no matter what, and was not afraid to let me know. She was always such a comfort, and now I hope she’s in the arms of comfort.

I met Sis. Jones when I attended TBC from 2011 to 2015. She was our dorm supervisor. I did not like her... at first. I found her rigid, harsh and sometimes oblivious. However, my perception changed one night when a spontaneous water fight broke out at the beginning of the year. In both pictures I took she was standing right beside me, laughing....telling us that we all looked ridiculous but as long as our shirt were dark and loose we were ok. She watched the chaos unfold as we all let off a little steam standing at the top of the balcony keeping a bird's eye on things. She always played a key component in so many memories. In the middle of a Tuesday service, one of the guys insisted on releasing balloons in the sanctuary. Another one thought ' this was a great time for fishing". Although the first ten rows of the congregation had minimal idea as to what was happening. All of us in the back watched Sis. Jones patiently stand by as several guys attempted to fish the balloons down. She then gave her famous Sis. Jones "look" at Micah letting him know he was utterly 'ridiculous.' Then there were our formal nights, where she made her rounds and made sure all the ladies had what they needed. She always looked effortlessly gracious in whatever she wore and however she wore her hair.
But then there are the memories that have no photos, but live forever in our minds and hearts. The fasting prayer nights she held for the women's dorm that always led to her sharing the message of the clay in the potter's hands. We always had a move of the Gifts of the Spirit and Tongues/Interpretation. Those nights I will never forget. Nearly all of us sought and received therapy in her car on late nights. Riding around with her eating ice cream and being absolutely silly. Her poor car had been stolen right before the beginning of the year and was recovered, but trashed. She started her car with a set of pliers to reach in and turn over the ignition. She knew how to tell us the hard things, the gentle things and the unspoken truths of being in ministry. She rarely got a full night's rest with students constantly seeking her advice at all hours of the night.
Despite being a fresh convert when I arrived, she held me to the same standard as the PK/MK's. She helped rise to the occasion and filled in the gaps of experience and knowledge that I lacked so I could excel. At a yearbook meeting she gave me the nickname "bulldog". We laughed since it wasn't the most flattering name. But with the straightest of faces she looked at me and said " it's a compliment, because you have the mindset that once you get a hold of something, you don't let go. That's a good trait, just be careful what you get into." Those words were so true and continue to be so; and I have never forgotten.
Sis. Jones never showed signs of wavering and she never did. 100% of her time and heart belonged to Jesus. She displayed absolute trust in Christ. She is what we all aspire to achieve in ministry and in our walk with Christ. Absolute Surrender. Sis. Jones your absence on this earth will be sorely missed and grieved but your impact will be seen for generations of ministry yet.
