I'm so sad to hear of Bill's passing. He was such a sweetheart!! Many memories from high school and on. I was terrified of those Great Danes, but boy, did they mind Bill! It only took a word and they came running. Praying for peace for his family. He was loved by many.

Cheryl and Ronnie, my mom was Aunt Martha. She loved going to the high school football games to see Bill play. I remember that's how we spent most Friday nights in the fall. One time Bill got hurt during the football game. My mom climbed over the fence and ran out onto the football field. I'm sure Bill was mortified that his Aunt Martha was out on the football field. But that's how she rolled. I always remember him with a smile on his face. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Roxanne Middlebrooks Calabria

Ohhhhh Roxanne I don’t know how many times Bill told me this story and always put a smile on my face. He was for sure a story teller and always making me laugh or smile and sometimes just surprised. Haha….. Thank you for keeping this memory going. You put a smile on my face this morning and a few tears too. Take care Roxanne, he loved you too. Cheryl

Cheryl, Ronnie and Family,
I was so sad to receive the message from Steve that Bill had passed. As a child I recall visiting Aunt Martha at Christmas. I stood at the window and watched all the boys with their fireworks. I was not old enough to join in on all the adventures but know the Atkins boys always had an exciting time together.
Bill always impressed me with his kind, gentle spirit. I am sure you take comfort in knowing Bill is with his Savior. He has had the opportunity to visit loved ones, but most of all worship his Lord!
Love, Unaka

There is such a void here now but he knew I loved him dearly and with all the memories and knowing he is sheltered in the arms of God now. I must go on. Prayers for all of you. Cheryl

Bill was a wonderful and fun friend to me from many many years ago. If there was anything fun going on back in our teen years he was in the middle of it. He was always in a good mood and always smiling. Back in his bachelor days he was one of the biggest flirts I ever knew. and the women loved him. You could always find him at the back bar at Puddin’s – later called Top Gun-from that vantage point he would be picking out who the girls were he wanted to dance with that night. He was a great cook and frequently would show up to a gathering, bringing his home cooked beef tenderloins, which were fabulous. There was a certain part of Bill that was Peter Pan and never wanted to grow up. I identified with that. I will miss him for now, but I’m sure I will see him again soon. Love you my friend.
